    About Mediterranean Savor

Yiasou! Welcome to Mediterranean Savor, a food and lifestyle blog brought to you by Eva Vasilas-Fry, a first-generation Greek-American recipe creator and food journalist.

My inspiration for this site is to document and share authentic family recipes that my parents and extended Greek family have brought over with them to create a legacy for my own family. Secondarily, my goal is to create and share modern Mediterranean recipes that support a healthy lifestyle and the Mediterranean diet.

I'll also share some travel tips as I have traveled the Mediterranean extensively and love sharing my experience with others.

    A few notes about me:

I have followed the Mediterranean Diet my entire life, learning to cook from my Greek mother at a young age. She attempted in vain to get me to write down the recipes when I was 15, and as you can imagine, that did not go over well as I had other priorities.

I developed and published a Greek cookbook with a national philanthropic organization in 2011 called Festival of Greek Flavors. It was a labor of love and passion for several years. That was the spark that I was meant to be a recipe developer and food blogger.

I create all my recipes, photographs, and videos as well as manage my social properties. I love comments and questions, so please comment if you like or want to try one of my recipes.

For 7 years I worked with Albertsons/Safeway to develop recipes using their brands. I was selected as a Featured Chef in 2022 and 2023 and had my recipes and videos featured on their websites and social properties. In addition, I have worked with many national brands to create healthy recipes that promote the Mediterranean diet on this site and my other site, SuperSafeway.

I am currently taking classes to become a certified nutritional coach so that I can provide informed and accurate nutritional information in my recipes.

As a mom of 3, I also have a passion for creating healthy, family-friendly recipes that follow the principles of the Mediterranean Diet.

The Mediterranean Diet has been the #1 diet for health and longevity for many years as highlighted by the medical profession and by U.S. News & World Report.

I hope you enjoy this site's authentic and modern Mediterranean recipes. Please be sure to review and comment on the recipes you like.

    Food and Life Philosophy

My philosophy when it comes to food and nutrition can be summarized as follows:

    • Eat Real Food: Start shopping in the produce department and build your meals around vegetables. If and when it is available, go to the local farmer’s markets and buy what is in the season to be in line with nature's offerings.
    • Food Is Medicine: Make it a priority to build your weekly menu around a diet that is high in fruits, vegetables, fiber, legumes, and healthy proteins. When shopping, read labels and keep in mind that you are what you eat and that food is medicine.
    • Cook at Home: Make it a habit to cook at home. Once you learn the simplicity of preparing delicious food at home, fast and casual offerings lose their appeal because you don't know the quality or source of ingredients used. You can replicate most restaurant options at home with minimal prep and maximum flavor.
    • Move your body: Make it a habit to get 30 minutes of exercise every day. Walk the dog, lift weights, or do yoga or pilates. There are hundreds of free workout videos on YouTube and 30 minutes is a manageable time to incorporate every day.
    • Everything in Moderation: None of this says that you will never eat desserts or socialize with friends in a restaurant. Everything in life, including our eating habits, is all about moderation.

    Καλή όρεξη!

Greek for kali orexis means good appetite or bon appetit as the French say.
